Can I get my own secure certificate? How?
If you have an account with a dedicated IP address (200 MB or above),
you can have your own SSL certificate installed. This means that rather
than using our shared certificate for encryption, you can use the
standard https method (https://www.domain.com/page.html) to encrypt the
connection to any page in your site.
How do I get the certificate?
We will need your official name and address for the certificate,
including company name and department. Also, a phone number and email
address that will become part of the certificate and is publicly
viewable.
If you are having us order the cert for you, that is all you need to do.
We will order the certificate on your behalf, at our partner discount.
You will receive an email from GeoTrust that you must confirm to compete
the order. As soon as you have replied to that email, we will install
it.
If you decide to order it, we will generate a CSR (Certificate Signing
Request), upon receipt of the information above, for you to use in the
order process. You then send us the public and private key (CRT and KEY)
files that are generated by the certifying authority and we will install
that onto the server and make the appropriate changes to the Apache
Configuration.
How much does it cost?
If you have us order (and pay for) the certificate for you, it is $175
installed. This is much cheaper than ordering the equivalent certificate
yourself from GeoTrust (The QuickSSL Premium) because of our partnership
arrangement with them. If you do feel comfortable and wish to order it
yourself, we charge $50 to install it.
We use GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium certificates, and they retail at $199,
so going through us is a bargain! There are other certs available with
somewhat less compatibility that you can use....this is up to you and
could save you a bit more.
These prices are for each installation. Certificates are generally done
yearly, but you can get multi-year ones which will obviously save you
money over the long term as you avoid the extra $50 installation fee.
Each additional year adds $125.
The certificate that you get is yours to keep and is associated with the
domain so you are free to change hosts and getting multi-year
certificates shouldn't worry you.
Payment for SSL certificates is due in advance of installation if we
order them from GeoTrust on your behalf.
Additional feature of GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium Certificate
The GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium Certificate that we order also comes with
an intelligent seal to show your customers that your site is secure.
Instructions for installing the seal can be found here:
